Top Ten Tuesday: 10 Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, but Still Haven’t Read

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week’s topic is:

10 Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, but Still Haven’t Read!

This week’s prompt was a painful callout of my never-ending TBR list. It took ages to narrow it down to just 10 books, I have a mountain of books staring at me every time I open my kindle now. Maybe I can take a very long vacation and catch up on my list, or maybe I will just continue adding to it with all of the phenomenal new releases in 2022…

I’m Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid: I was excited to read this book and got it shortly after I heard about the movie coming out. I have to be in a particular mood to read horror/thriller books though, so it has yet to be opened.

Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica: I have only heard good things about this book, but I’ve also heard that it’s quite shocking/potentially scarring, and I haven’t had the nerve to start it yet.

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke: I was so excited when I heard about this book, I got it almost immediately after it came out. And then I blinked and suddenly it’s buried in my Kindle almost two years later.

The Theft of Sunlight by Intisar Khanani: I absolutely devoured her first two books, and waited so eagerly for The Theft of Sunlight. I’ve just been waiting for the right time to read this book, what that right time is…I have no idea.

The Goddess of Nothing at All by Cat Rector: This book wasn’t as loudly celebrated as a lot of the books on my list, but it piqued my interest right off the bat. Unfortunately, it too was buried in my Kindle for a later day that has yet to come.

Beasts of Prey by Ayana Gray: I got this book shortly after it was released, but held off on reading it once I heard the sequel was coming out because I like to read series close together whenever possible. Beasts of Ruin is set to be released on July 26th, 2022, so I had better get to reading the first book soon!

Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao: I was swept into the hype for this book and got it shortly after it was released, and I keep thinking about picking it up to read, but keep getting distracted.

My Heart is a Chainsaw by Stephen Graham Jones: I actually received a digital ARC of this book, I was so excited about it after reading The Only Good Indians. But The Only Good Indians scared me pretty bad, so I’ve been waiting for a nice sunny day to read this one.

The Lady or the Lion by Aamna Qureshi: This is another book that I’ve been holding off on reading even though I have it because the sequel was announced. The Man or the Monster is also coming out in July 2022, so I need to get this one to the top of my list.

The River Has Teeth by Erica Waters: Here is another great book that just got buried in my Kindle after I got it last year.

I think I need to come up with a better solution for the books I have to read. Out of sight, out of mind seems to be the running theme here. Maybe I need to have them on a list taped to my wall, that might remind me to read them.

Do you have a way of keeping up with the books you already own, or do you have mountains of unread books like me? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’ve only read Pirenasi–I listened to it and it amazed me. Sort of beyond my comfort zone since it’s fantasy or fantasy-ish.

  2. Piranesi is fantastic. I hope you’ll enjoy it!
